MARK C. BALLANDIES, PhD, is a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich, where he is exploring decentralized, bottom-up, and community-owned solutions that he is putting into practice with onocoy, a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) that uses web3 to improve GNSS (e.g., GPS). He is co-founder of DAOSuisse, lecturer at the Voralberg University of Applied Sciences, alumnus of the Foundation of the German Business, president of education matters e.V., member of the dcent group, initiator of the association Smarte Dörfer and former treasurer of the Club Alpbach Zurich.
In his talk he will focus on the topics of DAOs and token incentives as suitable tools to faciliate the self-organization of complex systems in the form of blockchain communities. He will start from theory with concepts such as complexity, collective intelligence and self-organization, then illustrate how DAOs and token incentives can facilitate them, and finally conclude with learnings from applying those mechanisms in the onocoy project.
